The FSA is issuing an urgent allergy alert after finding popular snack bars have been wrapped in the wrong packaging

Sainsbury’s and Asda have recalled popular snack bars from their shelves after a major packaging blunder.

Halo Foods Limited has issued an urgent product recall for its Skinny Crunch Light Peanut Butter Bars following a factory mix-up that saw the peanut bars accidentally packaged in Skinny Whip Toffee wrappers.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has warned that the mistake poses a serious health risk to anyone living with a peanut allergy or intolerance, as peanuts are completely omitted from the ingredients list on the toffee bar packaging.

The affected products have been sold in selected Sainsbury’s supermarkets across England, as well as Asda stores in England and Scotland.

The recall applies specifically to 5-pack boxes (5 x 20g) of Skinny Crunch Light Peanut Butter Bars carrying a best-before date of August 2027 and batch code 6238 (time stamped between 08:30 and 10:30).

Safety watchdogs urged shoppers who have purchased the implicated batch not to consume the bars and to return them to their nearest store for a full refund.

Point-of-sale notices are being displayed across affected supermarket branches to inform customers of the recall and explain the return process.

Halo Foods confirmed it has alerted relevant allergy support charities to inform their members, while working with retail partners to ensure all mislabelled stock is removed from sale.

Unlabelled peanut exposure can trigger severe allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis, a life-threatening medical emergency that requires immediate treatment with epinephrine.

The FSA stated that no other Halo Foods products or batch codes are believed to be affected by the packaging error.
