The assault killed one woman, damaged homes and halted air traffic, said Moscow’s regional governor.

Ukraine launched a massive drone attack on Moscow and other parts of Russia in the early hours of Tuesday morning, according to Russian authorities.

Russia’s Ministry of Defense said in a statement on Telegram that it shot down 144 drones, including 20 around the Russian capital, 72 in the western region of Bryansk and more than 50 elsewhere.

Moscow regional Governor Andrey Vorobyov said Tuesday on Telegram that the drones struck “the urban districts of Podolsk, Ramenskoye, Lyubertsy, Domodedovo and Kolomna” in Moscow region, killing one woman and injuring three others.

Two apartment buildings were severely damaged, he added, and dozens of people were evacuated. Three airports in Moscow were temporarily shut down after the attacks, Reuters reported.

The bombardment is one of Ukraine’s largest drone attacks on Russian territory. Kyiv has stepped up its assaults on Russia in recent months, aiming to cripple the Kremlin’s invasion often by striking military targets across the border.

Authorities in Kyiv have so far not commented on the attack.
