December 21 has been officially recognized as World Meditation Day by the United Nations, marking a landmark moment for mental wellness and global unity. Spiritual leader Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar is set to deliver the keynote address at the UN Headquarters in New York on December 20 to inaugurate this significant occasion.
The event, organized by the Permanent Mission of India to the UN, focuses on the theme “Meditation for Global Peace and Harmony.” It highlights meditation as a critical tool for fostering peace, reducing stress, and bridging divides in an increasingly fragmented world.
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, a global advocate of meditation for over 43 years, will address international leaders and later lead a global livestream meditation on December 21, aligning with the Winter Solstice. The session aims to unite millions worldwide in a moment of reflection and renewal.
This recognition comes as a bold acknowledgment of meditation’s role in addressing modern societal challenges, including violence and mental health crises, further solidifying its relevance on the global stage.
