Adam Handling critcised the parents of ‘selfish little brats’

A Michelin-starred chef has claimed that guests at his pub allowed their dogs to savage chickens, while their children broke into its coop and smashed fertilised eggs.

Former Masterchef: The Professionals finalist Adam Handling said “evil” guests at the Tartan Fox near Newquay, Cornwall let their pets and children cause havoc during last week’s Sunday lunch service.

In a video posted to Instagram on Thursday, Mr Handling said: “On Sunday, we had a couple of guests that just allowed their dogs off their lead, where there’s signs everywhere saying, ‘Please keep your dogs on a lead, chickens are everywhere’, to just attack our chickens.

“A few of them died. They died today after being nursed for the last couple of days, which is really quite sad.”

Mr Handling claimed that their children then went into the pub’s chicken coop, where the rooster had been fertilising the eggs to produce more chicks, before they “picked up all the eggs and smashed them against a tree.”

“I have no idea what goes through kids’ heads when they’re doing it”, Mr Handling said.

“I don’t understand the parents that allow those sort of children to act that way in public places.

“So where there were about maybe 30 or 40 fertilised eggs, completely smashed, because of these selfish little brats that came to my pub—because that is totally unacceptable.

“And for that child it says more about the parents than the child.”

He finished the video by saying: “I’m so disappointed. I’m so hurt. I loved them chickens so much, and you had them killed. Evil.”

Mr Handling told The Telegraph that his staff at the pub realised the eggs had been smashed when dead chicks were discovered around a tree.

“We realised immediately the dog was off its lead going at the chickens, but the eggs were only caught afterwards,” he said.

“We checked the coops in the evening and thought, where are they all? And we see the tree is covered in eggs, and we can see the chicks dead around the tree.”

The chef also said that procedures at the pub are changing to keep the chickens more secure. This will include cameras in the coop and motion sensors.

Mr Handling added: “It sounds simple but [we will install] extra signage of things we thought were common sense.”

The Scottish chef, 37, runs two Michelin-starred restaurants – Frog by Adam Handling in London’s Covent Garden, and Ugly Butterfly in Newquay.
