The husband of a woman murdered in Renfrewshire appeared in court earlier this month charged with assaulting her, the BBC understands.
Jim Mair, 43, was found dead near Corsliehill Road in Houston on Monday alongside the body of 35-year-old Stacy Mair.
Police said her death was being investigated as murder, while Jim Mair’s death was being treated as unexplained.
The Crown Office said Mair appeared at Paisley Sheriff Court on 6 July charged with assault. His death means any court proceedings have now also ended.
Mair was bailed after the case was continued for further examination.
The Scottish Sun first reported, external that bail was granted on condition that he did not approach his wife.
The couple were married in 2019 and had a tree removal company called TRS Tree Management.
Stacy Mair, who was from Falkland in Fife, was a director of the firm before she resigned from the role in January.
Police Scotland said Jim Mair’s death was being treated as unexplained pending the results of a post-mortem examination, but said there was nothing to suggest anyone else was involved.
Det Ch Insp Laura Young, of the force’s major investigation team, said: “Our thoughts remain with the families of those affected by this incident.
“They are understandably devastated and we are providing them with support through specialist officers at this incredibly difficult time.”
