Brick Lane is one of the most vibrant and best-known streets in London. Famous for its curry houses and 24-hour bagel shops, it also has provided a home to migrant communities for decades.

For years it has been threatened by gentrification, now campaigners say Brick Lane is facing a very different – very 21st-century – threat: the construction of a massive datacentre.

Annie Kelly speaks to local people, politicians and activists on why they are fighting against it, and hears why central government gave it the green light even in the face of local opposition.
